We met in the fall of 2009. I was working at my first job as a registered nurse in Union Hospital's Emergency Department. It was slow one nightshift so one of the other nurses (Colleen) decided she was going to find me a boyfriend. I laughed at her and watched her go through her facebook for the rest of the night. A week later we were working together again and she came running up to me told me she wanted to set me up with one of her friends, a Lynnfield police officer. She told me he needed a date for his twin brother's up coming wedding. At the same time we were receiving a new patient by ambulance. She started to whisper ,as we were receiving report from the medics, that one of the medics was his mother. I was embarrassed and quickly got to work.
The next day while at work I noticed the same medic (Mike's mother Ann) bringing in a new patient. This time she was looking right at me and I could hear her asking one of the other nurses who I was. I immediately thought Colleen had said something to her and I was extremely embarrassed. In the next moment Ann was asking me how long I've been working here and if I was single. She said she had a son for me. I don't remember what I said but I know I giggled and turned beet red.
A few days later when I saw Colleen I told her what happened. She laughed, told me she didn't say anything to his mother. In fact, she said it made her conversation with Mike, the previous day, make more sense. She said when she called him to tell him about me he had guessed that she was trying to set him up with a new nurse in the emergency department named Kim.
We ended up meeting a few weeks later at Friday's restuarant with Colleen and a group of her friends. Let's just say being set up is awkward enough but meeting someone in front of people who you don't know is beyond awkward. Luckily on the walk out to our cars we ended up talking for awhile and I gave Mike my phone number. He called me the very next day! The rest is history! |
