Rob and Caris actually knew of each other back when they were both in high school (Simcoe Composite School). They ended up in the same group of people for going to prom and even slow danced with each other there! Caris recalls fondly that Rob was a very good dancer with very nice shoulders to hold onto! :)
Caris went off to the University of Manitoba, and Rob went off to the University of Toronto in Mississauga. As fate had it, Rob decided in 2006 to change schools to the U of Manitoba for their football team! Go Bisons!
In September of 2006, Caris stood with her parents in the residence office area (which happened to be the lobby of Rob's residence). Caris's parents decided to use the washroom before heading out again, so Caris waited by the campus map. Rob came in, sweaty and smelly (or so he claims) from football practice, and went to swipe his card next to the campus map in order to enter his residence. He glanced twice at Caris as he couldn't believe he would be recognizing anyone from Simcoe in Winnipeg!
Our eyes met as we both got awkward and said hello to one another. We chatted briefly and Rob met Caris's parents briefly as they went their separate ways. As Caris left the residence building, her mom said "oooh, he's cute!" and Caris said "yeah, I bet I'll end up dating him". Caris did a little reconaissance Rob only lived across the street from Caris and so it was inevitable that they were to meet up again and have long chats in the evenings before classes and football practices. Woops! Hope it was all worth it Rob! ;)
And, as they say, the rest was history. <3 |
