I must admit that I was totally against this whole wedding website thing for a second wedding...and I'm still not sure what convinced me to do this! But what the heck...you only live once, and you only really have your dream wedding one time. Yes, that's right, my second wedding is my true dream wedding...coming true! And how did we get here? Here's our happily ever after...
Fred and I have worked together for over 10 years (so long, we can't actually remember the actual number of years) at Freddie Mac. We have worked on many projects together, and attended several conferences. So, we have definitely been friends for years. In March of 2007, Fred's wife of over 20 years, Debbie, passed away. I remember feeling completely devastated for him and for his two beautiful little girls, Allison and Olivia, who are adopted from China. I was on a business trip when I heard the news, a trip that Fred was supposed to be on with us.
In 2008, a friend and I decided that it was time to get Fred out of the house again. We started planning happy hours and other "fun" things to do for him. We even went as far as trying to figure out who would be good for him to go out with. In the meantime, Fred and I started talking more and more, on a daily basis. We mostly talked about the joys of having girls the same ages and the fun challenges that awaited us in the future! We compared notes about our girls and decided that we needed to get them together. We chose our company outing to Six Flags to introduce the kids, since they were so much alike. The girls hit it off immediately and begged for another "playdate". Fred and I laughed and made our own date, mainly to compare notes about the girls and our day at the park, at least that's what I thought!
Our first date was a dinner date at Wildfire restaurant. We talked, laughed, and everything in between for hours. At some point, we both knew that this could be the start of something, but what, we weren't sure. That night was the first of many dates, that led us here. We spent many days together, either at work, or after work, and we scheduled more and more "playdates" with the kids. It didn't take long for either one of us to realize that this was much more than a friendship, this was definitely the start of something new.
In December, we decided to take a trip to Charleston, SC. I thought I had the weekend all planned, down to every detail - well, Fred actually did most of the planning, but I thought I had an idea of what was going on. But he still managed to completely surprise me - he asked me to marry him! I was speechless, except when I said "YES"! He proposed...She said yes! Most people didn't even know we were dating, and here we were getting ready to plan a wedding! And the rest is what you would call history!
The last few months have been spent planning our "small, intimate" destination wedding in the Outer Banks, NC, to our exciting honeymoon in Mexico. And of course the details of me moving from Laurel, MD to Round Hill, VA! We have so much more fun stuff planned, way too much to mention here, but it is definitely the start of something new...our "happily ever after."
