Our story began in the fall semester of 2010 at UNM when Marissa, who was starting her sophomore year in Chemical Engineering, was in desperate need of some Calculus help. Luckily, Joe was the lead math tutor for the Engineering Student Services center. One day, Marissa built up the courage to go talk to the handsome engineer. Joe was pleasantly surprised to find out that Marissa was in need of a tutor and offered to help. Our first "study session" was at a local coffee shop near campus that consisted of very little Calculus, but instead a lot of talking, joking, and laughing. Since then, we have been inseparable and the coffee drinking continues...

After 2.5 years of dating and praying for God's guidance, I decided it was time to ask Marissa to be in my life forever. So, we took a snowboarding trip to Breckenridge, Colorado with a few close friends where I had planned out the proposal. I knew the way to Marissa's heart was through dessert, so I coordinated with a local restaurant to create a special dessert menu for Marissa. After the main course was finished, the dessert menus were passed out. With all of our friends watching as she scanned the menu, she came across the last dessert item that said,

"The one thing that's better than chocolate and lasts a lifetime."

She had to read it a couple times before she asked what it was. It was then that she looked over and saw me down on one knee. She finally got what the dessert meant. To sum things up, she said YES! (and then orderd a gourmet banana split to celebrate)
